Decoupage

Decoupage is one of the most effective and cheap ways to update a kitchen set. The works of the masters turn out to be so interesting that even looking at not very high-quality photos is still breathtaking and I want to try to transform the furniture in the kitchen, which has become incredibly annoying, beyond recognition.

To make such a beauty, nothing expensive is required. All you need is an artistic flair, an understanding of how transformed furniture will look after decoupage work comes to an end.

What is required:

paint;
large kitchen-themed drawings (for example, fruits, beautiful jars with spices or cereals);
acrylic lacquer;
primer;
craquelure lacquer (provided that you want to achieve an aging effect - as a result, the furniture will be covered with art cracks);
pVA glue (or special decoupage);
sandpaper;
set of brushes.

Indiscriminately the kitchen again can not do. Unscrew the panels, remove the accessories. Thoroughly wash the surface that you will decoupage. If necessary, sand, remove irregularities.

Carefully inspect the surface, if there are large cracks on it that spoil the appearance, then you will first have to putty them on. After that, go through the panel with sandpaper.

If the main decor of the room is made in the Provence style, then pictures with the image of lavender, olives, climbing roses will do.

By the way, pictures for decoupage can also be printed independently, if you have a laser printer.

You can go another way - decorate kitchen cabinets with pieces of wallpaper with a suitable pattern. Perhaps this is the easiest decor option.

If you decide to decorate the old headset with wallpaper, then in this case, standard glue for decoupage or PVA will not work. In this case, the glue is selected from the type of wallpaper.

Next, apply a thin layer of paint of any other color to your taste, but make sure that the white color does not shine through the new layer. If you wish, you can leave a white border around the edges. Now start creating. Take a spatula with large cloves and draw straight lines from top to bottom. The result is smooth tracks. Move a short distance and look at the door - it seems that it is covered with a striped cloth. If you also draw horizontal lines, there will be a feeling that the fabric is in a cage. There is one important circumstance - be sure that the hand does not tremble, the lines are even. It is also impossible to tear off a hand when drawing lines, otherwise the tracks will look messy.

Self-adhesive film

One of the easiest and cheapest ways to update a kitchen set is to glue the facades and internal shelves with self-adhesive film. The range of this material in stores is impressive - without problems you can pick up a vinyl film with the desired pattern. The image on the film imitates different surfaces: natural stone, leather, wooden texture.

Self-adhesive film is ideal for restoration of old kitchen furniture:

It tolerates high humidity;
It is steady against sharp temperature difference;
It is well washed;
If necessary, it is easy to replace the damaged fragment.

Materials and tools:

self-adhesive vinyl film with the desired pattern;

sponge.

Before starting restoration work to improve the appearance of kitchen furniture, it is necessary to completely free it from the contents, remove the shelves, drawers, remove the facades from the hinges, remove the accessories.

Spread the unscrewed facades on a solid horizontal surface. Now take off the dimensions - the height and width of the boxes, facades that you are going to paste with a self-adhesive film. Record this data.

Unscrew the handles, corners and other fittings, if any, on the facades.

Now arm yourself with sponges, detergents - thoroughly wash the surface on which you plan to stick self-adhesive. Make sure that there are no oily stains on the panels and shelves. Do not forget to wipe the headset dry with a clean soft rag that does not leave a lint.

It is easy to work with a self-adhesive film, and a beginner furniture restorer can cope with it without problems. Please note that a centimeter paper grid is applied on the back of the film. It will help you cut the details of the right size.

Do not forget to add 4-5 cm to the pattern in those places where the film will be bent. This margin is necessary so that the film stretches well. When you begin to cut the film, control the location of the picture, if it is there.

Using a marker knife, cut out the required number of parts according to predetermined dimensions (taking into account the margin for hem).

Start decorating your headset. Attach the film to the surface of the facade, carefully peel off the protective paper base on which the centimeter layout is made. After the film is evenly adhered, pass along it with a rubber roller. Check that the self-adhesive film lies evenly and there are no air bubbles under it.

In such a simple way, paste over all the facades, shelves, drawers. Replace hardware if necessary. Screw the facades into place.

Now admire your work! The set has changed, it will last a few more years or until you want to radically replace all the furniture in the kitchen. In the meantime, get ready to listen to compliments from friends who came to the light that you could transform your old headset so cheaply beyond recognition.

Facade replacement
