Is it possible to glue felt onto pva. How to glue felt between itself and other materials. Materials for cutting parts

Felt is the highest grade of felt, made from fluff or delicate wool. In stores, this material is sold in the form of cut sheets of dense compressed wool, rolled into rolls.

You can sew jewelry from this material, you can use it to decorate bed linen, covers of photo albums and notebooks.

Felt is often used to make handicrafts, which are rarely done without the use of glue. About, how to glue felt correctly without spoiling it, we’ll talk!

What glue to glue felt with - review

To work with felt you will need cutting, drawing and fastening tools.

  • Standard scissors;
  • Embroidery scissors – for cutting out small details;

VIDEO REVIEW INSTRUCTIONS

Why can't you use PVA glue?

Many people make the mistake of using PVA glue for crafts and other felt projects. Only PVA-MB (universal) and PVA-M (super) are suitable for this.

Household PVA glue for wallpaper and PVA-K (stationery) are used for working with cardboard and paper. If you apply them to felt, then when they dry, traces of yellow color will remain.

It is better to avoid using this type of glue altogether, since its white or yellowish mass is very thick and lumpy.

Instructions – glue the felt without leaving any traces in the handmade craft

You can glue felt to felt and other materials using either the above-mentioned types of glue or silicone. But in the second case, you will need a heat gun.

Bonding with silicone

This method of working with felt is very convenient, it will save time and allow you to achieve a strong connection. A glue gun is an electric hot glue tool.

To work with it you need:

  • Insert the silicone rod;
  • Plug the heat gun into a power outlet;
  • Wait until the rod begins to melt;
  • Press the trigger and squeeze out the required amount of glue;
  • Upon completion of gluing, turn off the device from the outlet;
  • Wipe off any remaining glue on the nozzle with paper.

You need to get used to the heat gun - you need to work with it very quickly, because the glue instantly hardens, after which it will be quite problematic to remove it from the felt. The advantage of buying a tool is that it will be useful not only for fastening fabrics, but also during the repair process.

Gluing with regular glue

Apply any glue extremely carefully and sparingly so that the felt does not become saturated or wet.

  • The surface to be glued must be dry;
  • Apply the glue in a thin and even layer on both surfaces;
  • Hold for 5-10 minutes, then press firmly for 1-2 seconds. The strength, not the duration of compression, is important here;
  • If the glue has soaked outward, glue a duplicate over the damaged area, applying glue along the contour of the area to be glued.

Each glue can be removed from felt in several ways:

  • PVA. It can be easily removed with warm water or a rag soaked in alcohol or vinegar;
  • Stationery or silicate glue. Easily removed with cold water, diluted with soap and one teaspoon of soda;
  • Glue-Moment. Fresh residues can be removed with a rag soaked in gasoline. Dried glue can only be removed with solvents or special means, such as “Super Moment Anti-Glue”;
  • Silicone glue. Place the product in the freezer and wait until the hot melt glue freezes. When exposed to cold, it becomes brittle, after which it can be removed with a spoon or a dull knife. It may fall off on its own. Acetone is also good at removing hot glue residue. Having dissolved under the influence of this substance, the glue can be wiped off with a clean rag.

Important rule

Whenever you are going to start making crafts from felt and gluing it, first check the effect of the glue on a piece of fabric you do not need.

We looked at what types of felt are the most common today and how to choose the most suitable one from this variety for your particular case. Today I want to draw your attention to the necessary set of tools for working with felt, the most convenient ways of cutting this material, methods of joining parts and how to care for finished felt products.
Necessary tools for working with felt

First, let's decide what we will use to cut the felt. Something... of course, scissors - you will say and you will be partly right. But it may happen that the scissors will be powerless before the “mighty and great” felt. Yes, and scissors are different. By the length of the blades, by their thickness, and even by the pattern of the edge of this very blade. But since scissors are the most used tool both in needlework and in everyday life in general, let’s start with them.

So, for working with felt, ordinary straight scissors will be indispensable. If we are talking about making toys and accessories from felt, then cutting or even ordinary but high-quality small stationery scissors are perfect. They will be comfortable to hold in your hand and, thanks to the not very long blade length, it will be easier to cut out various curved lines of parts. For example, when cutting out the key holder, I used the scissors that came with my hair clipper. But not thinning ones, of course. Those. in principle, it does not matter whether these are “super-duper felt scissors” specially purchased in a highly specialized store or the most ordinary (but not the cheapest, since we are talking about a quality tool) scissors purchased in a regular fabric store or even just in a stationery store store. The most important thing is that they are of high quality, well sharpened, namely, have well-sharpened blade bevels, and fit comfortably in the hand.

Another cutting tool that is worth having on hand is small scissors with thin and very sharp blades. Like manicures, but with straight rather than rounded tips. They are sometimes called embroidery scissors. They will help you out a lot when cutting out some small details, all kinds of ornate patterns and complex contours.

It is also worth paying attention to all kinds of curly scissors, which are now sold in sufficient quantities. This is a “wave”, and a “zigzag” and a scalloped edge, which has already become a favorite of many needlewomen. They even managed to come up with their own original name for it - “Cookie”. If you hear this word in connection with the mention of cutting tools for felt, then you should know - we are talking about these scissors. True, just curly ones sold in stationery stores still won’t work. I have several types of such scissors, but they don’t even cut 1 mm thick. Or maybe the quality of the blades is bad... Because one day I came across a review from a girl who talked about how she uses just such scissors. Don't know. I won't advise. After all, these scissors are designed to work with paper, not fabric... and certainly not with such dense materials as felt. Handicraft stores and fabric stores sell high-quality scissors with a curved blade edge, and they will definitely work. True, the price for them often leaves much to be desired, but this is a topic for another conversation.

But not everything can always be done neatly with scissors. If you have chosen thick felt for your work, then very soon you will understand that cutting with them is very, very difficult, the edge turns out to be very uneven, and also “shaggy”. This is where a roller cutter can come to the rescue. I should note that it cuts both thin and fairly thick felt with a bang. Now, in parallel with preparing for the publication of this article, I am sculpting one cute trinket, and so - I cut out one part with scissors, and the other with a roller knife. Of course there is a difference! In favor of the knife. The edge is smooth, without lint, and it’s also faster than using scissors. I recommend it! The main thing is to do this carefully, because these knives are very sharp. Make a slight mistake and that’s it: instead of one part, there are two. By the way, these knives exist with different attachments - for straight cutting, serrated cutting, as well as perforation. In general - an excellent and useful thing!

For cutting various small round holes, a punch for installing eyelets, buttons and perforations is perfect. They are available both with a nozzle for cutting out one diameter, and with several nozzles of different diameters. So... We have sorted out the tools necessary for working with felt. Now let's look at how to cut it.

How to cut felt - main points

There are actually no special tricks or subtleties here, and in principle, questions about how to cut felt should not arise. Felt is generally a very convenient material in this regard. Stick in a couple of pins and you're done! Or you can attach it with tape in some places. True, I personally didn’t like this option, because when you remove the tape, felt hairs come up with it. This means that when we cut something new from the leftovers, the surface of the material there will already be “shaggy”. Of course, over time, one way or another, the product may become “fluffy,” but for me it’s better later than right away. But of course it’s up to you to decide. This method is quite convenient, and in comparison with the first, it is safe (this may be especially true if there are children in the house... very nimble children). Perhaps you will choose this one. The only point that I think is worth dwelling on is how, or rather, WHAT to translate the contours of the pattern onto the material. An ideal tool would be a self-disappearing marker for transferring contours onto fabric and other textile materials. With this marker you can translate even the smallest and most complex lines of details. But be careful, don’t forget to check such markers for “disappearance” to avoid unpleasant surprises

But, of course, this is not the only tool that can be used to translate contours. Some craftswomen use a gel pen for this. And some use ordinary tailor's chalk or soap. I am much more accustomed to using chalk where the contours of the part are not particularly complex. It’s also convenient because you don’t need to specially draw the outline. It’s enough just to move the chalk along the edge of the pattern, without fear of going far beyond, and by removing the pattern piece we get a fairly clear outline. But if the part itself is small in size, and even decorated with “carved” patterns, then the chalk will probably no longer be relevant. In this case, I take a gel pen. In general, there are not, and there cannot be, any specific rules. What is suitable in one case may not be suitable in another. And vice versa. However, basic knowledge of how to translate the contours of a pattern can significantly facilitate the solution of the primary issue, namely, how to cut felt. Let's move on.

Basic methods of joining felt parts

The parts are sewn together with regular threads. I use polyester very actively - today, it seems to me that this is the most common thread in composition. They'll fit perfectly. Depending on the thickness of the felt, you can use the thread in one or several folds. And depending on the purpose, use matching or contrasting thread.

Floss threads will also be very useful. They will help highlight the beauty of your product like no other. They do not fade, like those discussed above, they are smooth, even, have a pleasant satin shine... Working with them is a pleasure! In addition, now you can find such a variety of these threads on sale! For example, I recently discovered the existence of metallic floss. They look simply gorgeous!

Wool threads look very organic when finishing felt products. Whatever your choice, pay attention to one more important detail - select the thickness of the threads (or the number of folds) depending on the thickness of the felt fabric. Then the finished product will look beautiful and neat!

As for the adhesive connection, there are also quite a lot of options. You can use Moment-Crystal glue. It is transparent and gives a strong connection. There are also special textile adhesives (usually fabric glue is written on the label) This is a very good option. Usually a bottle with this glue has a very narrow dispenser spout, which is very convenient when you need to glue very small parts (eyes, spout, some finishing decorative elements). Try joining with PVA glue or a glue stick. Many people appreciated them. Perhaps you will like it too.

It is also worth paying attention to the silicone glue coming from the thermo-gun. To work with it you will need to get used to it, since this glue dries very quickly. But the connection is very, very good. In addition, a heat gun is fast and convenient!

Another option that you can use is double-sided tape. It also gives a very high-quality connection. There is a distinction between stationery double-sided tape and construction tape (for mirrors, tiles, carpets). Scotch tape can come in very handy if, for example, you need to cover the cover of a diary, book or the wall of a box with felt.

As you can see, there are quite a lot of connection methods and we have just looked at them. This means what to sew or glue the felt with is no longer a question for us.

Well, the last thing we will look at today is

Caring for felt products

As for caring for felt products, everything is also very simple. And since we are talking exclusively about toys, crafts and accessories made from this material, we will consider care in relation to these types of products. The choice of a specific cleaning method depends primarily on the purpose of the product itself. This can be dry cleaning, when you simply walk over the surface with a dry soft brush. Larger items can be vacuumed using a special attachment. If any heavy dirt has formed on the surface, you can go over it with a moistened sponge, or even better, with a cloth or fiber glove. In this case, you can also use foam for cleaning carpets and other woolen products or any other detergent for these purposes.

Caring for felt products also allows for delicate washing in a washing machine or the same delicate hand washing in warm water (no more than 40°C), but be careful about the question of whether your felt is shedding or not. After washing, it is best to place the product on a horizontal surface to dry. And yes, I still wouldn’t recommend squeezing it out. At the very least, if you decide to do this, do it very carefully to prevent deformation.

If, despite all the precautions, the product has lost its shape a little - don’t be upset! This can be fixed with an iron. Using an iron in the “steaming” mode, being careful not to touch the surface of the material.

Important!!! Before you start washing the product, remember/find out how the parts were attached - sewn or glued.

That's all. Now you are definitely savvy and when you get ready to sew someone... some kind of gift from felt, you will approach this issue not at all like an amateur, but “with feeling, with sense, with planning”! And the result from this knowledge, or rather from its application, will be obvious! Undoubtedly! After all, products made with your own hands, and even with skill, are highly art!

Manual labor is always individuality and a guarantee of exclusivity of a thing. Today, handicrafts are becoming more and more popular, and everyone realizes their fantasies as best they can. Most often, craftswomen take up sewing, and the best material for this is felt, or, as it is also called, felt.

In order for a product made from this fabric to be of high quality and to serve the owner for a long time, you should know how to glue felt to felt or other material. Of course, before this, it is useful for novice needlewomen to understand the varieties and features of this material.

Features of felt

Today, felt is made from various materials, which ultimately affects its use. The main property of this fabric is the ability to separate pieces of fabric. Felt can be cut perfectly with scissors, forming smooth edges, and can also be easily torn by hand, which allows you to create thin fluffy outlines of the flaps. The type of felt depends solely on the further purpose of the product. For convenience, the material has both front sides, holds its shape perfectly, bends and is quite pleasant to the touch.

It is important to know that felt can be made from natural wool and synthetic materials. The latter fabrics will be more loose, which makes them relevant only for the manufacture of clothing parts, for example. In general, where you don’t need to keep in shape.

Acrylic fabrics

Material of non-natural origin is made on the basis of polyester or acrylic. The thickness of the canvas and density may be different in both cases.

Acrylic felt has a characteristic squeaking sound when bent and poor flexibility. It is very cheap, and the choice of colors is simply amazing. It is when working with this type of fabric that the question most often arises of how to glue a part onto felt, because due to its increased rigidity it is often used in the manufacture of various stands, baskets or for the design of paintings and photographs.

Polyester felt

Felt made of polyester has absolutely identical strength properties, only this material is also characterized by softness. This synthetic material is very popular among needlewomen for its positive qualities:

  • does not shed;
  • does not wear out;
  • wide range of colors;
  • keeps its shape;
  • affordable price;
  • pleasant to the touch.

Very often, polyester felt is used to make soft toys. Another explanation is the slight transparency of the material, which is fully compensated by the application of several layers of fabric, which is exactly what is practiced in sewing various figures.

Synthetic Korean felt made of polyester is considered to be the highest quality and most popular among craftswomen.

Natural material

Interestingly, felt made from pure wool or wool mixture is in little demand among needlewomen. In this case, you can glue felt to felt in any way. But why did the craftswomen not like this type of fabric? The main reasons are:

  • high cost of fabric;
  • small selection of colors;
  • shrinks when washing;
  • can be worn through to holes;
  • a large number of “pellets” often appear;
  • large thickness.

It is very difficult to sew several layers of such material with ordinary threads, but due to the fact that it holds its shape well, it is often used for making flowers from felt. How you can glue the fabric in this case is described in detail below.

By the way, if upon purchase it is indicated on the product label that the felt is made of wool, this fabric can contain it only in a certain amount and in fact be half-woolen. The remainder of the manufacturing material is always synthetic. It is this combination of natural and artificial that is considered ideal for sewing various products, since the final product always combines all the positive qualities of wool and synthetic wool.

Compromise solution

Wool-blend felt is very soft, easily takes the desired shape, holds it well and is offered in specialized stores in a huge color palette. Among the advantages is the low price, of course, when compared with all-natural felt.

Among the disadvantages of the fabric is the noticeable appearance of folds after creasing, but only in very large sizes. Small parts always quickly return to their original shape. To give the material maximum rigidity, it can be treated with a special compound. By the way, the fabric tends to “wrap around.”

Viscose felt

This variety should be considered separately, since its characteristics combine many qualities of all the fabrics listed above. It is the one most often used for toys, so when working with it the question arises of how to glue felt to felt. Instructions for this are below.

The fabric explains its popularity due to its unique ability to allow air to pass through and at the same time absorb moisture. Such characteristics make the material ideal for decorating wardrobe items.

In addition, felt is pleasant to the touch, flexible and durable, but is prone to wrinkles, which should be taken into account by needlewomen.

So, after the ideal type of material for working on a specific work of art has been selected, you should move on to answering the main question.

To make high-quality appliqués from fabric, in particular felt, needlewomen can use many available and specialized tools. Of course, not every glue is capable of reliably holding parts together, so you should take care of purchasing the necessary product before starting work.

So, what can you use to glue felt to felt? Initially, PVA glue was often used for this, since it could be purchased almost everywhere and at a low cost. With the growing popularity of this type of needlework, specialized textile adhesives also appeared on sale. Also, to reliably fasten felt parts, hot glue with a gun or some varieties of “Moment” are often used. Each remedy should be considered in more detail.

PVA glue

In this case, a novice craftswoman needs to know that the usual stationery variety of this product cannot be used to join fabric parts. Felt and similar PVA wallpaper will not stick together. Is it possible to glue felt with PVA glue at all? The answer is yes, but to be effective, you should only use a product labeled “M” or “MB”. Such compositions are considered universal and can be used to connect fabric parts, however, after washing they can easily come apart.

Glue gun

If the question of how to glue felt to felt so that it can be washed is as pressing as possible, and in the future the product will be used often, then the needlewoman is recommended to pay attention to hot-melt adhesive. It is applied using a special gun, which melts the glue rod and allows you to control its application to the parts. This tool has found its application in many areas, even in repair.

Rods with cured glue are offered in stores with various parameters. When purchasing, it is important to pay attention to the fact that its melting temperature is not higher than the maximum indicated in the gun itself. The rods can melt at 100-150 degrees.

Before you glue the felt to the felt, you should also pay attention to the color of the gun rod itself. Craftswomen are offered special multi-colored compositions so that the connecting elements do not stand out against the general background. Such rods must be opaque. If the glue in its solid state has at least a slightly translucent structure, then its composition will already indicate a certain marking. In this case, to connect felt parts, it is better to purchase universal, completely transparent rods. After hardening on the product, such glue will acquire a translucent film.

Pistol selection

In order for work to bring only pleasure, you need to choose the right tools for it. A glue gun is an electrical device that runs on mains power and heats the glue sticks inside it. The liquid flows out of the “barrel” of the device when a special trigger is pressed. To work with felt, it is best to purchase guns with a working rod diameter of 7-8 mm, this will be enough.

The possible length of the rod is also a parameter for selection, and the time of uninterrupted work on your product depends on it, because replacing rods may require frequent distractions.

When purchasing a tool, you should also pay attention to its maximum operating temperature. For standard rods, it is enough to increase the temperature to 105 degrees, but the higher the temperature, the faster the speed of its melting and all work, respectively.

And, of course, convenience. For maximum comfort during operation, devices with a trigger should be used. Its mechanism can be slider or rotary (the most common).

Specialized means

With the growing interest in needlework, new tools began to appear in specialized stores that made manual labor easier for many craftswomen. These include specialized textile adhesives. They contain absolutely no toxic substances, do not leave marks on fabrics and are great for gluing small parts thanks to the convenient bottle dispenser spout. The disadvantage of such compositions is that they are easily washed off with water, which means that things made with their help simply cannot be washed.

How do you glue felt to felt so that the product can ultimately be easily washed? To do this, you can use such a variety of popular universal glue as “Moment Crystal”. This product is toxic and should only be used in ventilated areas with extreme caution. The glue itself is quite liquid, all actions must be carried out as carefully as possible. Otherwise, it does a great job of joining the felt together.

For maximum results, apply the product along the contour of the part, wait a little for the glue to lighten and apply another layer on top, then attach the part to the desired place.

Operating rules

When choosing any product, you should carefully prepare the material before gluing felt to felt. PVA glue must be pre-mixed, when working with the gun, check its technical condition, and when connecting parts using the “Moment”, open a window for ventilation. In any case, before gluing the “finish” parts, you should check the properties of the glue on unnecessary flaps.

It is important to apply any glue sparingly so that its liquid structure cannot completely saturate the fabric. Otherwise, traces of glue will appear on the front side of the parts. If this does happen, the situation can be corrected by re-applying a duplicate to the damaged fabric. It is important to glue the second layer of fabric only along the contour of the part.

Glass and metal are fairly common materials that can be used in everyday life and industry. Often there is a need for gluing such materials, which can cause quite a lot of difficulties. For this purpose, special substances and adhesive technologies are used.

What substance should I use?

First of all, you need to decide which substance to use to connect the two materials. How to glue metal to glass - such a question is considered solely taking into account the characteristics of the selected adhesive. They may be as follows:

  1. Two-component epoxy adhesive. It is characterized by high insulating properties, very high strength, and electrical conductivity. In most cases, its consistency is transparent, consists of two components, for use it is enough to mix them together. Today, such adhesives are very widespread, as they are easy to use and allow you to achieve very high results.
  2. Silicone with high thermal stability. It is often used to glue glass to oven metal. The main properties are indicated by the manufacturer in the operating instructions; as a rule, the layer after hardening is not afraid of fats, oils and exposure to high temperatures. In addition, among the main properties there is resistance to low temperatures; the glued object remains intact even when the indicator drops to -60 °C.
  3. A product called Moment Crystal. When using it, the gluing procedure is significantly simplified, the interlayer is elastic and resistant to a wide variety of influences. After the deforming load has disappeared, the layer returns to its original position after some time. This type of glue is often considered when searching for an answer to the question of how to glue glass and metal, especially when working with parts that may be subject to vibration loads.
  4. Automotive adhesive resembles rubber in its basic characteristics. It is ideal for gluing metal and glass. It is worth considering that when decorating it is chosen extremely rarely, as it is black in color.

Gluing a metal surface to a glass surface or vice versa should be done only taking into account the manufacturer’s basic recommendations.

As a rule, instructions for use are located on the back of the package.

How to glue correctly?

The instructions largely depend on which adhesive composition was chosen. In order to avoid serious mistakes, you must follow all the rules and recommendations. Most attention is also paid to where exactly the resulting product will be used and under what conditions.

  1. Do not neglect the recommendations regarding the use of solvent. With proper degreasing of the base and removal of all contaminants, high quality mating can be achieved.
  2. Paint and other coatings should also be removed as they significantly reduce the bonding of individual elements.
  3. It is recommended to heat the glass before gluing it directly. The heating temperature should be about 30 degrees Celsius. This figure can only be achieved by using a hair dryer. It is worth considering that with a sharp increase or decrease in temperature, the glass may crack. Therefore, the heating process must be carried out with caution.

You can speed up the drying of the glue by placing the product under a press. We must not forget that the applied load must be distributed evenly, otherwise the glass may burst.

Cyanoacrylate

Super glue has become quite widespread. It can be used to obtain reliable connections of a wide variety of types. The two-component version is most often used for gluing glass and metal. Its main advantages are waterproofness and quick drying. Among the features of its use, the following points can be noted:

  1. The elements to be connected are prepared accordingly.
  2. The two components are mixed until smooth. It is worth considering that the paste can remain in a plastic state for only a few minutes.
  3. After obtaining a homogeneous mass, it is applied.

At the time of gluing, it is necessary to ensure a tight fit between the two surfaces. This ensures a reliable connection.

Sealant

Also, to achieve the task in question, you can use various types of sealants. Typically, the sealant provides a high degree of joint insulation. That is why it is used when it is necessary to achieve not high strength, but water permeability.

The procedure for gluing two elements when using sealant is not significantly different. Among the features, we note that the sealant may require more time to dry.

In addition, the resulting pairing is characterized by less reliability.

Moment crystal

This substance is characterized by the fact that it forms a soft layer that can withstand slight displacement of the objects being glued relative to each other and then restore its shape. Among the application features, the following points can be noted:

  1. It is important to prepare both surfaces well, and then heat the glass and metal. This increases the reliability of the connection between the adhesive and the base.
  2. As a rule, glue is supplied in one-component form. However, it can be in the form of a liquid or paste. Uniform distribution allows you to achieve better results.
  3. Do not forget that a high load should be placed on the elements being connected, but it should be evenly distributed. Otherwise, the glass may break.

The instructions for using the glue in question also indicate how long it takes for it to dry completely. This often takes several hours, but takes longer to achieve 100% strength.

Automotive glue

Transparent car glue is also available on sale. When using it, you can achieve high quality connections. A similar adhesive for glass and metal is used as follows:

  1. The surface is prepared to remove dirt and foreign substances. If possible, both mating surfaces should be as smooth as possible.
  2. For degreasing, a substance is used that does not form a film on the surface.
  3. It is checked how tightly both surfaces fit together.
  4. The part is preheated with a construction hairdryer to a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius, thereby increasing the efficiency of the connection.
  5. The parts are installed so that the seam is in a horizontal plane whenever possible.
  6. While the surface remains warm, metal and glass are glued. It is necessary to ensure that the applied layer is uniform. In addition, it is recommended to remove the excess that comes out immediately, since after hardening it can create quite a lot of difficulties.

You can choose this type of glue to connect a wide variety of products, but most often it is used when gluing windshields. It is worth considering that a lot depends on the quality of the adhesive composition. That is why it is recommended to give preference to products from well-known manufacturers. Low-quality products will lead to an unstable fit of the glass on the metal, and after a while the degree of sealing of the joints will decrease.

Using UV lamp for gluing

To ensure a strong connection, an ultraviolet lamp is often used, which makes gluing much easier. It is useful when using special adhesives for glass and metal, for example, VERIFIX MV 750 or B 682-0. The first version should be used exclusively for transparent glass. Recommendations for glue with UV lamp are as follows:

  1. Before starting work, both surfaces are degreased and cleaned. You cannot use gasoline or kerosene for this, as such substances can leave a thin film. There are special liquid glass solvents on the market.
  2. Using a hairdryer, the glass is heated, which significantly increases the adhesion rate. In this case, it is recommended to reach a temperature of about 60 °C.
  3. The glue is applied in a thin layer, after which the products to be joined are applied to each other.
  4. Using a gluing lamp, the surface is irradiated twice. At the first stage, the degree of connection is 70%, at the second stage the strength increases to almost 100%.

The duration of irradiation largely depends on what kind of lamp will be used for this. All of them are classified according to power indicator. The first stage of irradiation, as a rule, lasts much less than the second.

Tile adhesive is presented in two categories - adhesive pastes and dry cement-sand mixtures. If we are talking about polystyrene ceiling tiles, use a transparent composition based on acrylic or PVA. Porcelain tiles require an option for attaching the tiles to the wall or floor. Quite popular among Unis builders.

There are several varieties of linoleum glue, each of them is intended for one or another type of linoleum - commercial or semi-commercial, on a natural basis, homogeneous, with antistatic properties.

There are many companies producing compounds for parquet and laminate. Many people are familiar with Ceresit glue, as well as Litokol, Tarkett, the quality of which has been tested over the years. But in order for even an expensive good composition to cope with its task, it must be selected carefully.

For decorative elements on walls

A special category includes glue for decorative elements. These include baseboards, decorative stones, plastic, corners and even windows. To glue them, sealants and polyurethane mixtures that are resistant to moisture, ultraviolet radiation, and aging are used. They reliably glue metals, ceramics, wood, stones, and polymers.

When choosing a composition for a plinth, you pay attention to two main parameters - the neutrality of the contents in relation to the colors of the ceiling and walls, as well as the strength of installation.

The adhesive for plastic should also be transparent, while one composition is suitable for PVC panels, and another for polyurethane panels. An option for corners is often liquid nails, which are easily applied using guns.

The selection of a mixture for decorative stone should be based on the type of stone - either gypsum-based or cement-based. The most popular dry mixes are Ceresit and Knauf brands.

Modern manufacturers produce options that are universal and hold different surfaces together. These include, for example, Cosmofen.

Glue for household needs, home and garden

For domestic use, manufacturers offer a variety of options that do their job well and are inexpensive.

Glass adhesives are characterized by a high degree of transparency and quickly set on different surfaces - wood, metal or other glass. This composition can easily revive a broken vase or mirror.

If you need to glue rubber or attach it to some other surface, use the rubber option. It is divided conditionally into four categories depending on the duration of exposure - at least a day, up to 12 hours, up to 30 minutes and instant.

Among wood glues, the simplest and most popular is PVA, which can safely be called universal. It is sold ready-made, can be stored for a long time, and is non-toxic.

Mixtures in the form of creams, water-dispersed options that are suitable for different types of trees, as well as plywood, chipboard, veneer, and laminate are also available for sale. The line of products from Henkel, Titan alcohol-based formulations, as well as melt products are quite popular.

There is probably paper glue in every home, and even more so in the office. The simplest option is in the form of a pencil. It is light, compact, convenient, but suitable for temporarily fastening light sheets. PVA will cope perfectly even with thick cardboard.

It is enough to apply it in a thin layer and press firmly onto the surfaces. The mastic will set in a few minutes. For many years, silicate glue, or office glue, has been actively used for fastening paper. The product is based on an aqueous solution of potassium or sodium polysilicates. But over time, the adhesive seam turns yellow and crumbles, so it is not suitable for critical work.

For thin paper, acrylic is suitable, as it reliably adheres to surfaces and does not turn yellow over time. Dextrin powder is quite popular, which is diluted with water, after which it is ready for use. The universal product includes the “Mars” product, which bonds well not only thick cardboard, but also leather and dermantine.

If there is a need to glue large surfaces at home, it will be convenient to use aerosol glue, which is easily sprayed and holds both porous and smooth surfaces together. With the help of such mastics, leakage areas are also sealed.

Adhesive for transport

In the automotive industry, repairs cannot be done without special tools and rubber glue. There are many varieties, and options must be selected individually for each surface.

A punctured tire is not a reason to be upset. Both at home and in a car repair shop, using special compounds, it is possible to quickly correct the situation. Vulcanizing liquids are often chosen as glue for bicycle and car wheels, which allow you to quickly and efficiently make patches for tires.

For automotive glass and plastic, this option is used in the assembly of automotive components, for sealing glass, repairing units, and replacing old gaskets. Silicone sealants with good adhesion to metal are excellent for these purposes.

To repair rubber and canvas boats, products based on waterproof rubber are used. They hold rubber to rubber well, including in the presence of painted metal parts, glass, plastic, wood, and plastic. Most of the products are affordable and even when used at home, they successfully cope with their tasks.

Adhesive in medicine and beauty industry

Adhesive mixtures have long been adopted by women who use such products to enlarge, extend, and strengthen hair, nails, and even wigs. For cosmetic purposes, special products that are safe for health are being developed.

Eyelash extension service is one of the most popular in beauty salons. Artificial eyelashes are attached to the eyelid with a special composition, which should dry quickly, be invisible, durable and at the same time not cause allergies or smell. During the procedure, a high-quality product does not sting and ensures unnoticeable attachment of the artificial eyelash to the skin. Premium brands include Ag Beauty, Macy, and Dolce Vita eyelash adhesives. You can find many cheap Chinese analogues on the market, but a self-respecting master will not use them - they leave a white residue.

Nail glue is an indispensable assistant for nail technicians. It is used for repairing artificial and natural nails, and also as an adhesive for rhinestones, lace, foil, and attaching tips. A high-quality product does not spoil the nail, does not cause irritation, and can withstand exposure to ultraviolet radiation and water. It comes in convenient packaging and does not require additional tools to work with it. Hardens in a few seconds and lasts a long time.

Hair extensions are a popular procedure and are not cheap. To attach the extensions, you need a composition for hair and wigs. The selection of the product is carried out based on the type of extension. So, for hot hair, special heated resins are used, however, they will hold hair for no more than three months. During cold extensions, donor strands are secured with a two-component composition that does not cause irritation to the skin.

If it is necessary to securely fasten the wig, use special polyurethane-based mixtures. They are attached to the base of the wig, entering into a chemical reaction with them, and the other side is attached to the scalp until the next peeling.

In medicine, BF glue is indispensable. This is a well-known antiseptic that effectively disinfects and accelerates the healing of scratches, cracks, burns, and abrasions. Dentists treat tooth roots with it to treat inflammation. Also in medicine, other options are used for sealing seams, gluing bones, and restoring muscle tissue.

Adhesive for leather and shoes

Shoe and leather products have a one-component quick-setting composition that bonds leather blanks, plastic materials with polyurethane soles. They are used for hot gluing of natural or synthetic leather, as well as rubber. Does not require thermal activation or hardener.

For PVC, use “Mars” glue for repairing shoes, apply it to the surfaces to be glued in two layers. The first one needs to be dried for 20 minutes and then reapplied. Then the patch is applied to the desired place and bandaged to the shoe. The bandage can be removed after a few hours, and after another two you can put on your shoes.

Shoe repair products are strong, durable, do not leave stains, are easy to clean with a solvent, and set quickly.

Industrial glue

Products for installation and production work are presented in the form of melts or dispersions of inorganic or organic compounds, as well as solutions. They are used to fasten leather, glass, plastics, wood, paper, earthenware and other materials.

Synthetic products are polymers and monomers, for example, BF.

Polyurethane glue appeared in Russia not so long ago, but quickly gained popularity. It is waterproof, sets quickly, and can be used in a wide temperature range. High-quality fastening of wood, rubber, metal, PVC, rubber.

Epoxy adhesives are made from epoxy resin and are used for bonding crystal, pottery, porcelain, precious stones, and plastics.

Another option is casein glue made from dairy industry waste, which contains mineral salts, slaked lime, casein and kerosene. It is sold in powder form and must be dissolved in water before use.

By decorative elements I mean rhinestones, stones, mosaics, shells and other pleasant little things that can complement the decor.

Let's say you created a beautiful seascape on canvas. Of course, for volume and realism, I want to add a large beautiful shell and a couple of pebbles (sorry, pebbles found by chance). Moreover, dried starfish just begs to be put on canvas. But you won’t be able to glue these decorations onto PVA. What kind of glue should I use?

Surely you have seen that in television master classes, designers usually use a “hot gun”. You can buy it at a hardware store.

Glue for the gun is available in the form of sticks. You load the gun with them and plug them into the outlet. The glue begins to melt. Now pull the trigger and squeeze out the liquid glue directly to the desired location on the canvas. And press the shell there. The glue hardens quickly and the shell is glued on! Everything is fine. What are the disadvantages?

Minus 1. The glue is very hot and viscous. Be careful yourself and do not give this tool to small children!

Minus 2. It is difficult to squeeze out a small amount of glue, so it sticks out from under small objects. Well, it’s okay, it’s transparent.

Minus 3. The collage turned out beautiful. You hung it on the wall and can't stop looking at it. Only in the evening, suddenly, one after another, the pebbles fell off with a roar... By morning, they were followed by a shell. The star, due to its dryness, lasted longer than others. And all because not every hot melt adhesive is capable of holding a heavy object of complex shape on a complex surface.

But a glue gun is indispensable when gluing light decorative elements with a “floral twist”, such as dried flowers, ribbons and other absorbent and loose material.

There are other options, such as Moment glue and various super glues. You can use them, but the pungent smell and the same stickiness are a little confusing.

You can try different mosaic adhesives. However, they are not all perfect. Some have a smell, others have a color. Ideally, we need a transparent glue that is easy to use, odorless and provides reliable adhesion to the surface.

Perhaps the most convenient glue for gluing decorative elements is rhinestone glue. It is suitable for any surface, including fabric; has no odor, because made on a water basis; easy to use - you can’t get burned with it and can’t easily squeeze it out, because... It is packaged in a soft tube with a thin spout. And, most importantly, this glue holds really firmly. You can usually buy it in art stores, where all decorative materials are sold.

Another great glue is clear acrylic gel. It can be matte or glossy. If you are working with a matte surface, it is better to use a matte gel (and vice versa). Acrylic gel meets all our requirements. The gel is produced in plastic tubes or glass jars. I usually use gel for gluing large elements and it has never let me down! However, keep in mind that both glue and gel take quite a long time to dry. If you are gluing a large object, and also an uneven one (such as a shell), you will need quite a lot of gel. The surface must be horizontal. Apply glue or gel and place the shell on it. If necessary, excess gel can be easily removed with a cotton swab. Leave the product to dry until the gel is completely dry (preferably for a day). If the elements are small, a small drop of glue or gel is enough. The glue will “set” very quickly, the gel will take a little longer.

I advise you to try these products, you will probably like them. Just remember to thoroughly dry and degrease the surface before gluing. And one more note: if the shell fell off along with the paint, then the problem is not with the glue. The reason is poor adhesion of the paint to the surface. That is why the surface should be prepared for painting.

I wish you creative success!

How to connect pieces of fabric together? Sew - many of you will answer. But sometimes these materials have to be glued together. Most often, this method is used by needlewomen who make a variety of hand-made products: toys, hair accessories, jewelry. But even in everyday life, sometimes it happens that you need to glue fabrics. For example, if a small hole appears on your clothes. It is not always convenient to sew on a small patch. But if you glue it, the place of “repair” will be almost invisible. How to glue fabric to fabric is the topic of our article. We will tell you what materials can be used to fasten textiles together.

Glue for decoupage

In craft stores you can find a tool for making textile appliqué. It can be used to glue different types of fabric together. This glue is good because it does not set immediately after application. You will have a few minutes after application to calmly lay the parts on top of each other, align and move them if necessary. After drying, no stains or streaks from this material will be visible on the product. The question before you is: “What kind of glue is best for gluing fabric?” The answer is simple - decoupage.

Rubber glue

When thinking about what glue to use to glue fabric, think about rubber-based fastening material. It is applied to both textile parts. Then they are carefully placed on top of each other and left to dry for about an hour. After this time, the gluing area is moistened with acetone, and the fabric is placed under a load for several minutes. It is advisable to leave the product that has undergone this treatment for another ten hours to “adhere”.

How to glue fabric to fabric? Textile aerosol to help you

This type of adhesive material is applied from a distance of 30 centimeters to the surface of the fabric. Immediately place the part that needs to be attached onto it. Place a flat, heavy object on top and leave the product to dry. This glue belongs to the category of “temporary fixation”, so it should not be used where pieces of textile need to be firmly connected. But for making appliqués and silk-screen printing, this material is simply ideal.

Adhesive tape

“Gossamer” braid is the name given to this material for fastening textiles and other products. It is sold in fabric and accessories stores. Before gluing fabric to fabric, you should prepare the materials. Turn on the iron, while it is heating up, lay a dry web tape between the pieces of textile that need to be connected to each other. Now iron the product on top. Turn it over and iron it on the other side. When heated, the glue melts and holds the parts together. It is important to know that before fastening thin textiles (silk, satin, chiffon) or natural wool, you need to cover them with gauze on top. This is necessary in order not to burn the fabric.

Now you know how to glue fabric to fabric, and if necessary, you can choose a suitable product for these purposes.

methods, types and characteristics of compositions

The need to glue fabric to fabric often arises in home crafts, everyday life, the textile and furniture industries. Fabric glue is used for this. How to use such glue to create a long-lasting connection without defects?

How to glue fabric to fabric, types of adhesives

The fabric has a flexible structure, is often deformed and is subject to washing. The connection between fabrics and fabrics must be so strong as to withstand different types of loads - tension and compression, exposure to hot air and chemicals, contact with water and ultraviolet radiation.

The basis of fabric glue is usually one of the following substances:

  • polyurethane - glues all types of fabrics together;
  • neoprene - high strength and temperature resistance;
  • butadiene styrene - professional strength, industrial use;
  • polyvinyl acetate - universal textile adhesive;
  • nitrocellulose - necessary for gluing fabric to leather;
  • polyvinyl chloride - ensures gluing of fabric to wood, plastic, leather, ceramics, glass, rubber and other types of textiles;
  • rubber - allows you to achieve maximum elasticity of the seam.

When selecting glue, many factors should be taken into account: the type and quality of the surfaces to be glued, what is supposed to be glued, and under what conditions the finished products will be used, what mechanical loads they will be subjected to. Do you need transparency and water resistance of the adhesive composition, or do you need elasticity and flexibility of the resulting seam?

Types of adhesives:

Hot melt adhesive. Widely used by professional seamstresses, it is commercially available in powder or solid form. The glue powder must be diluted and the solid glue sticks melted using special glue guns. Advantages - strength of bonding of materials to each other, ease of use, adhesion without marks or stains, non-toxic and safety.

Waterproof fabric adhesive. This is usually a polyurethane-based contact adhesive that is suitable for working with textiles, leather, wood, rubber and rubberized materials. It is transparent and does not flow, sets quickly and does not stain, and is not afraid of light, temperature and moisture. It has high adhesive ability to hold different types of materials together. Used on dense and highly stretchable, transparent and natural fabrics.

Professional textile adhesives. They contain styrene butadiene, which ensures reliable and strong adhesion of fabrics to each other and to other materials - cork, wood, plywood, plastic, foam rubber, foam, leather, and so on. It is expensive, it is used on a production scale - in studios, in textile and furniture production.

Universal adhesives. Such products are produced in small tubes with dispensers; they are necessary for quickly repairing clothing, accessories, bags, or quickly gluing small pieces of fabric together. It is characterized by economical distribution, allows for adjustments and is easy to use; after drying, it becomes transparent and hard, resistant to water, chemicals and temperature changes.

Adhesive fabric. This is a worthy alternative to glue. This fabric is widely used in industrial and domestic settings. It is very simple, as it is glued by ironing it with a hot iron. As a lining, it weighs and compacts the material, providing the textile product with shape and rigidity. It is indispensable when sewing outerwear, for finishing the edges of skirts and trousers, it is placed under collars, fronts and cuffs.

Liquid thread. Such compositions are necessary in needlework when combining materials to glue appliqués, patches, decor, fringe and rhinestones onto fabric. The glue is applied accurately and evenly, allows you to firmly fasten surfaces without the need to use a press, dries in seconds and does not damage the material. Suitable for use on felt, felt and when working with coconut threads.

Aerosol glue. Transparent and applied in a thin layer, does not flow or stain, provides the possibility of repeated use, and is stored for a long time. Spray adhesive is used for holding patterns, basting, and sewing in zippers. Before use, shake the can and spread the glue from a distance of 20-30 cm from the surface.

Advice! To remove excess glue from fabric, you can use acetone, alcohol or refined gasoline. PVA glue is removed when washing the product, rubber is squeezed out from under the surfaces to be glued, after which it can be pryed off and removed.

The easiest way to remove glue is with a special cleaner, placing the fabric to be cleaned on a light textile substrate with good absorbency. However, the harsh chemicals in the cleaner may leave stains or wear out the material.

Fabric glue - technique of use

The quality of adhesion largely depends on the correct use of the adhesive. It is necessary to first study the method of its use, familiarize yourself with the precautions and operating conditions.

Adhesives containing rubber usually require double-sided coating and a long drying time. If you need to glue canvases of a large area, they are usually pressed with a weight and left for several hours.

When working with perchlorovinyl adhesive materials, they are applied in two layers. The first is distributed evenly and left for several minutes to harden, then the second layer is distributed on top and only after that the necessary elements are fastened.

Nitrocellulose adhesives are distributed in one layer and glued immediately; only large products are placed under the load.

PVA glue is used to treat both surfaces to be bonded. To increase strength, it is better to use a load. A popular expert glue is “PVA construction”.

Silicone glue in the rod is applied using a special heating gun, which allows you to distribute the composition with a thread or pointwise. This glue is liquid, but does not flow, hardens quickly, but for some time allows you to adjust the position of the parts.

When fastening dense fabrics, a durable and waterproof composition is required, which is distributed over the previously degreased surface of the fabric. For degreasing, acetone or gasoline is used, the glue is usually applied in two layers, the connection is fixed for a long time. Items may only be used within 24 hours.

To achieve a high-quality and reliable result, each adhesive requires the creation of certain conditions. General requirements include application only to a clean surface and sufficient time for complete polymerization of the composition.

How to choose fabric glue

Which glue to choose for fabric? The specific goals of the work determine the choice of a specific composition.

For quick and high-quality repair of ruptures and cuts, it is convenient to use second and universal adhesives. They harden instantly, absorb without excess and leave no traces. The adhesive seam remains resistant to washing and ironing, deformation and wear.

To repair shoes, outerwear or jeans, a universal composition that is transparent and dries instantly is also suitable.

Secunda glue is suitable for gluing natural fabrics: cotton, linen, silk, wool, as well as stretchy knitted and thin synthetic materials.

Silicone glue in a rod is in demand in home crafts. It allows you to attach rhinestones, stones, beads, pearls and appliqués to fabric; it can be used to attach accessories to clothes - buttons, jewelry and decor.

Aerosol fabric adhesives allow you to apply the substance to the surface in the thinnest layer, avoiding deformation and marks. Its adhesiveness lasts for a long time, allowing the part to be attached and removed several times.

Synthetic adhesives based on different types of rubbers have a common drawback - a long drying time and the need for fixation. This can be inconvenient, and the result is not long-lasting enough.

Main selection criteria:

  1. Can be used for fabric.
  2. Safety, non-toxicity and high quality adhesive composition.
  3. Resistance to mechanical stress: breaks, deformation, stretching.
  4. Inert to various chemicals: washing powders, bleaches, stain removers.
  5. Color compatibility - better transparency.
  6. Resistance to temperature: increase and decrease, changes.
  7. Water resistance: the glue should not be destroyed by washing, sweat, or humid weather.
  8. Elastic and durable seam that does not disrupt the structure of the bonded material.

Adhesives for fabrics with different compositions and in different forms are useful for people in everyday life and handicrafts, indispensable for industrial and private use: making furniture, clothing, shoes, accessories, for ateliers, sewing curtains and repair shops. To choose the right glue and achieve a good result, you need to take into account its purpose, composition and main characteristics.

How to glue felt to felt so it can be washed?

What kind of glue you use to glue the felt depends solely on the further purpose of the product.

  • does not shed;
  • does not wear out;
  • wide range of colors;
  • keeps its shape;
  • affordable price;

  • high cost of fabric;
  • small selection of colors;
  • shrinks when washing;
  • can be worn through to holes;
  • a large number of “pellets” often appear;

It is this material that is most often used for appliqués on clothes and toys, so when working with it the question arises of how to glue felt to felt.

For the cutest felt art! In our catalog you will find hard Korean felt with a thickness of 1.2 mm. made from 100% polyester! All needlewomen who love to create something new and beautiful will definitely appreciate it.

WHY DO YOU NEED TO CHOOSE KOREAN FELT?

This material is very dense, but not thick. Therefore, it is very convenient to work with him.
In addition, it has a number of advantages:
Does not tear due to its density
Doesn't shed
There are no pills on it
Carefully washed by hand it looks like new
Can be sewn not only by hand, but also by machine

In Korea, hard felt is especially popular as a material for children's toys and crafts. And indeed, he is perfect for this. Dense felt makes reliable toys that hold their shape well. At the same time, do not tear it. And if the baby hits someone with his doll, it’s okay - the material is soft and won’t cause pain. Do you want the toy to be softer and more voluminous? Just add more stuffing. For active preschool children, such things are indispensable!

WHY HARD AND NOT WOOL FELT?

Of course, woolen and half-woolen felt is softer and very pleasant to the touch. But this softness is not always the best quality. After all, the shape and appearance of the product will not last long. Although this material is often used for interior toys and other accessories.

WHY KOREAN AND NOT CHINESE HARD FELT?

The quality of Korean felt is definitely good, there are not many surprises waiting for you here. But with Chinese it’s a different matter. When you open the set, you can see cuts of different density and thickness. Moreover, the material may be prickly. Of course, you can also make a good toy out of it. And the price of Chinese is undoubtedly quite low. But, if you want reliability and quality, it is better to buy a Korean one.

WHY NOT FELT (POLYESTER) FROM OTHER MANUFACTURERS?

Japanese and American manufacturers have very soft felt. And it has all the disadvantages associated with this quality:

Easy to stretch
Flizzles and rolls up
Impractical. It is unlikely that it will be possible to make toys from it that are as reliable and durable as Korean ones. After all, it will not keep its shape well. Although you can make a decoration out of it, an accessory that will simply please the eye.

WHY NOT ACRYLIC FELT?

If you like more natural, “warm” materials, you are unlikely to like this felt. It is completely synthetic and unpleasant to the touch.

WHAT TOOLS ARE SUITABLE FOR WORKING WITH FELT?

Crystal's offers you not only the best felt, but also a description of how to work with it. Do you want to work with this material, but you don’t know where to start? First, you need to decide on the tools.

There are many different tools suitable for working with stiff felt. Usually, needlewomen have to deal with the fact that this dense material requires special treatment. Not all scissors can handle it. So let's explore each option:

1. ORDINARY STRAIGHT SCISSORS - the first indispensable tool. Cutting and high-quality stationery will do. Remember that they should not be the cheapest - otherwise they may not withstand the resistance of the hard material. The needlewoman determines the size of the scissors herself. It depends on how it is convenient for her to work, what parts she cuts out. Long cutting sheets are suitable for large patterns. And stationery - if you need to cut out small details. The main thing to pay attention to:

    The quality of the scissors. They must be reliable.

    Comfort. The tool should fit comfortably in your hand.

    Sharpening. Let the bevels of the blades be well sharpened.

These scissors can be purchased at any fabric or office supply store. Remember that first of all you choose a tool for yourself. Therefore, choose the option that is most convenient for you.

2. SMALL SCISSORS WITH THIN SHARP BLADES. They are perfect for working with felt, which you can buy at Crystal's. These scissors are sometimes called embroidery scissors. They look almost like manicure scissors, but the tips are straight rather than rounded. Complex contours, small details, patterns - all this can be created using such a tool.

3. FIGURE SCISSORS, OR “COOKIE”. There are many options for these scissors, and you can buy them anywhere. Their blades can have a zigzag, wave, or scalloped edge. All this has long been used by skilled craftswomen in a variety of types of needlework. However, be careful - not all of them are suitable for felt.

If you often work with thick materials and want better results, purchase a tool from a craft or fabric store. It will be specifically designed for working with fabric and felt. This means it can handle the load well and cut out everything you need very neatly and evenly. But don't rely on scissors purchased at an office supply store. First of all, they are designed for working with paper. This means that the blades may not be reliable. Perhaps if you come across good ones, they will work faithfully even with hard felt. However, you may also encounter some that will not cut even 1 mm thick material. Of course, special scissors will cost more, but they will be reliable.

4. ROLLER KNIFE. Perhaps one of the best options. Scissors can cut felt unevenly, leaving an untidy edge. This problem can become especially serious if you are working with thick felt. A roller knife can cope not only with thin, but also with fairly thick material. The result will be much more accurate than when working with scissors.

HOW TO CUT FELT?

There is no one way to cut. After all, felt is a very docile material. It does not need to be held in place with dozens of pins precisely because it is dense. Each needlewoman chooses the method that she likes best. For example:

    Using pins. Again, you don't need too many of them. Pins will hold tight pieces of material well in place.

    Using tape. This method also works and is quite convenient. However, keep in mind that felt can be damaged by tape. After all, fibers will be removed from the surface of the material. And this will make him look somewhat unkempt and disheveled. On the other hand, after frequent use, the product may still become a little frayed. Scotch tape will help out if for some reason you can’t use pins. For example, if there are small children nearby who can grab a pin and prick themselves.

HOW TO DRAW A PATTERN ON HARD FET RE?

You can translate the pattern or directly draw it on the material. With felt this can be done in different ways:

    SELF DISAPPEARING MARKER. This is a common handicraft tool. You can simply draw whatever you want on felt. Even very small details. But do not forget that the lines may disappear. Another option is a marker that can be washed off with water. Remember that there are special rules for use for them. Study them carefully so as not to wash away the lines ahead of time or accidentally fix them forever.

    GEL PEN. She writes well and clearly not only on paper. However, the ink may not wash out.

    TAILOR'S CHALK OR BAR OF SOAP. A classic method that has its advantages. Of course, chalk and soap should only be used for simple parts. Their advantage is that they do not need to draw an outline. It is enough just to move the chalk along the edge of the pattern, and the line will not go beyond. For example, you need to be careful with a marker and pen. The outline will be clear and can be cut out without any problems. In addition, chalk is very easy to remove from felt. But if the pattern is full of complex small details, chalk and soap will no longer help.

As you can see, it is better to adopt several methods for translating a pattern. After all, what is suitable in one case may completely fail in another. Therefore, it is better to have chalk, a marker, and a pen on hand.

HOW TO CONNECT FELT PARTS?

There are many ways to connect felt pieces. And thread stitching is just one of them. After all, the dense material that Crystal’s online store offers you is very convenient to work with. Here are the most common methods:

1. SEWING. A variety of threads are suitable for this. It all depends on which ones you like to work with:

    Polyester is a very common type. Well suited for working with felt. You can take one thread or fold it to make it stronger if the material is thick.

    Iris. They also go harmoniously with felt. They are even, smooth, do not fade and are very easy to use. They will perfectly complement the product with its neat appearance.

    Woolen. Finishing with such threads will look very beautiful.

Remember a few tricks that will help you work with any thread. First, fold them several times when working with thick felt. Secondly, try not only to match the shade of the thread to the color of the material, but also play with contrasts. This will look great on jewelry.
For threads, special tapestry needles with a large eye are suitable.

2. GLUING. Needlewomen recommend several types of glue that can hold felt parts:

    "Moment-Crystal". It is suitable for this task due to its transparency and ability to firmly fix any material.

    PVA and glue stick. Some cut pieces can be connected with their help, but it is better to choose something more reliable.

    Glue gun. Silicone glue can do the job perfectly. The main thing is to work quickly - it dries very quickly. It is better to apply glue not to the entire part at once, but gradually, connecting 4-5 cm at a time.

    Double-sided tape. It can also give results. There is stationery and construction tape. Carpets, tiles, etc. are glued last. It is perfect if you want to cover a book or other thing with a hard surface with felt.

HOW TO CARE FOR FINISHED FELT PRODUCTS?

Felt requires special care and there are several ways to care for it.

1.DRY CLEAN. If you need to refresh the look of the product, just brush it with a soft, dry brush. And large things can be vacuumed using a convenient attachment.

2. WIPE WITH A WET SPONGE, fiber glove, napkin. Wet cleaning should be done carefully and only when the dirt is strong enough. You can use not just water, but a cleaner for carpets, wool, etc.

3.WASH BY HAND OR IN THE WASHING MACHINE. When entrusting the item to the machine, make sure that the delicate wash mode is selected. The water temperature should not exceed 40°C, no matter how you wash. To dry, lay the item on a smooth horizontal surface. It is better not to squeeze it out, or do it very carefully. Otherwise, the product may lose its shape. If this happens, you can steam the item with an iron through the iron without touching its surface.

Remember that before washing you must find out how the parts of the felt item are connected. After all, the glued parts can come off when wet.

Crystal's offers every needlewoman high-quality and reliable felt. If you do not yet know how to work with this material, high-quality felt will help you learn quickly and with pleasure. And if you are already a master of this craft, you will create many amazing things with it.
